About 10 Rules
From the creators of the classic, BUSTED: The Citizen’s Guide to Surviving Police Encounters (2003), Flex Your Rights will release its new achievement, 10 Rules for Dealing with Police in December 2009.
The 40-minute educational drama is the most sophisticated and entertaining film of its kind. Narrated by the legendary trial lawyer William "Billy" Murphy, Jr. (from HBO’s The Wire), 10 Rules depicts innocent people dealing with heavy-handed drug war policing tactics used every day in the United States. The film was made possible with generous funding from the Drug Policy Alliance, the Marijuana Policy Project, the Public Welfare Foundation and others.
Through extensive collaboration with victims of police abuse, legal experts and law enforcement professionals, we’ve developed a powerful multi-language (English, Spanish & Arabic) resource that provides proven survival strategies for dealing with racial profiling and police abuse.
Here's what we hope to achieve with the film's distribution:
- Educate millions of people about how to make smart decisions during encounters with police.
- Help individuals appreciate how Bill of Rights protections apply in their daily lives.
- Enable a broad range of civil liberties and social justice organizations to educate their memberships and attract new supporters.
- Invigorate discussion of racial profiling, the Bill of Rights, and criminal justice reform.
- Pressure law enforcement agencies to respect civil liberties and reduce their reliance on invasive policing practices.
